This post isn’t about Vientiane. It’s about pizza. Yup! Vientiane is not only home to Le Banneton and Joma, two French cafes and bakeries with delightful breads and pastries. It is also the place for really really good wood oven fired pizza.
French-owned Via Via at Rue Nokkeokoumane near the river serves the tastiest pizzas with a freshly-made dough and generous toppings.
It is far from your usual pepperoni and cheese pizzas. One of my favorites is La Sud which has mozzarella, goat cheese, and eggplant.
We also tried three different lasagnas— seafood, vegetarian, and salmon. Only fresh tomatoes were used in the sauce and the fillings were very generous.
The service is as excellent as the food. A young French woman manages the place and she’s very friendly and treats diners like treasured guests. Just as attentive and always smiling are the Lao staff.
The place is always full so is better to come an hour before dinner or lunch.
